Good to Know?
Shore excursions are no longer offered to the villages outside the resort complex.
- The beaches have soft sand but bring water shoes, as the shoreline has some sharp rocks and coral fragments. Most people use the provided beach chairs and loungers when sunbathing.
- Reef-safe sunscreen is recommended and available for purchase on the island.
- The volleyball court has been moved to the southwest end of the island, near the Reef Runner Bar. Equipment is provided; just turn up to play.
- There is no ticketed system for returning to the ship on the tenders, so the wait can be more than 20 minutes near the end of the day.
What Sets It Apart?
Unlike other private islands owned by cruise lines, this one is partially inhabited. Cruise passengers uses a small section of the island, while the rest of Eleuthera is inhabited by about 11,000 residents.
On ships that offer Princess Cruises' wearable Ocean Medallion device, passengers can use their OceanMedallion to pay for things like drinks, locker rentals, water sports equipment rentals and souvenirs from the boutiques.
Amenities?
Cruisers can rent scuba or snorkel gear, water noodles, floats, aqua chairs, standup paddleboards, sea boards, paddleboats, sailboats, bikes and kayaks.
Beach loungers are available free of charge. For shaded chairs for two people, "clamshells" can be booked in advance via the line's Cruise Personalizer or at the Shore Excursion desk on the ship. Selection is on shore, on a first-come, first-served basis; fees apply.
It's recommended that beach towels are brought ashore from the ship.
Princess Cays is easily walkable, with signage posted throughout the resort. A small tram service also runs to various points of interest throughout the day.
Free shuttles in small vehicles are offered to passengers who have booked a bungalow, but these venues are also within walking distance.
There is no dedicated kids club on Princess Cays, nor is babysitting offered on the island. However, Pelican's Perch is a supervised, fenced-in playground on sand. Located at the back of the resort, a couple of minutes' walk from the beach, it has a pirate ship-shaped structure to climb up and slide down, as well as a large sandbox with toys and a 2-foot-deep pool.
Infants in diapers or children who are not potty-trained are not permitted in the pool. Parents must supervise children at all times as this is not a childcare facility. Open hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Princess' MedallionNet Wi-Fi is accessible across Princess Cays for use by passengers who have purchased an internet package for their cruise.
Beach wheelchairs are available on the island upon request.
