Pearl Seas Cruise Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Pearl Seas cruise ships?

Similar to its sister company, American Cruise Lines, Pearl Seas draws mature passengers, though Pearl Seas skews toward slightly younger, later-born baby boomers rather than the leading edge of the generation or their parents. The majority of passengers are from North America and the U.K. and include quite a few multigenerational groups with adult children. With staterooms priced without a supplement, Pearl Seas also attracts single travelers, and it is one of the few river cruise operators to offer wheelchair-accessible accommodations.

Do I have to dress up on a Pearl Seas cruise?

No, the dress code is casual resort wear, although most people do dress up a little more in the evenings, with women generally putting on a dress or skirt with nice top or slacks with a sweater. Men tend to opt for slacks and a collared shirt, and some will bring along a sport coat as well.

Is everything free on Pearl Seas cruises?

Not quite, but a fair amount is. All meals are included, and beer and wine are complimentary with both lunch and dinner service. Additionally, cocktails, beer, wine and spirits are free each evening during the 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour. Wi-Fi is also included, as is the evening entertainment.

Gratuities will cost you extra, as will most shore excursions, and you pay separately for port charges and fees.

What are Pearl Seas’s most popular activities?

After spending the days on guided tours or exploring independently, evening activities are usually subdued and might include lectures, musical entertainment or culinary demonstrations. There tends to be quite a bit of conversation during the day among the friendly passengers in the Atlantic Lounge, but evenings are apt to end early.

Why go with Pearl Seas?

  • Itineraries along the Great Lakes, Canada and New England
  • The line's single ship, Pearl Mist, has oversized cabins, all with balconies
  • Lectures and local entertainers give in-depth feel to port visits

Best for: Mature travelers looking for a relaxed pace to explore some of the coastal byways of the U.S. and Canada

Not for: Passengers looking for dazzling onboard nightlife or families with young children

Small ship river comfort

Sign up lay-outs: Since this was the first cruise after covid, I know they're still working things out, but another problem was the layout for signing up for tours, especially the first day.I'm sad we were the first cruise to be back at ports after covid, because some of the local entertainment offered for previous tours wasn't available again yet.Read More

What a difference a couple of months makes!

We liked the fact that the Pearl Mist is a small ship, but even our mid-grade cabin was bigger than most every ocean-going state room we’ve been in.The lack of amenities was also the topic of at least one prior review.Read More
