Vantage Cruise Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Vantage cruise ships?

Vantage is marketed to well-traveled passengers ages 50 and up, as well as solo travelers (of the same age), mostly from the United States and Canada. Children over 8 are permitted onboard but not a common sight.

Do I have to dress up on a Vantage cruise?

Not really. There is a casual and relaxed dress code onboard, more so than on ships that cater to Europeans. Comfortable attire is more important than fancy clothes. The only rule for the main dining room in the evening is "no jeans or shorts." Passengers that prefer to wear denim when the sun goes down can opt for casual dining in the informal Captain's Club alternative dining room.

Is everything free on Vantage cruises?

No, but a fair amount is. Fares for a Vantage cruise include most daily excursions, meals onboard, wine, beer and soft drinks with dinner, and Wi-Fi. Gratuities, bar drinks and a few select optional excursions will cost you extra.

What are Vantage’s most popular activities?

Vantage cruisers are interested in getting to know the destinations they visit in-depth. Onboard lectures, demonstrations, special meals, land-based home visits, performances and walking tours are among the most popular activities.

Why go with Vantage?

  • Sightseeing tours are always included in the fare
  • Cabins for solo travelers, free or low-cost single supplements
  • Itineraries to all continents focus on cultural connections and special interests

Best for: 50-plus North American couples and solos looking for traditional river cruising

Not for: Young cruisers, families and non-English-speaking travelers

Never again with Vantage Travel

But Vantage Home Office was not forthcoming with information; would not refund any moneys for changes they made (if you cancelled the trip you could only get a credit for a future trip; and then with penalties); and the ship's staff made it clearly known, that they were separate from Vantage Home Office. The manager promised us an extra credit of another $1,000 if we would leave our deposit with Vantage; and this was done.Read More

Bait and Switch with no customer service from Vantage corporate

“Negatives” of our 20-day cruise, 16 days of which were on the Ocean Explorer, a small ship • Several excursions were “optional” (i.“Positives” of our 20-day cruise on the Ocean Explorer • Probably a “negative” from Vantage’s point of view, but with only 88 passengers (on a ship with a capacity of 160, although we had been told it was “sold out”) we got to know a lot of really nice and interesting people.Read More

DO NOT BOOK WITH VANTAGE TRAVEL!!!

Two days before Christmas, on our "Portfolio" which we have to initiate as opposed to notifying us by email, Vantage states they are changing the cruise to "Passage to the Caribbean" totally removing the Amazon River. We tried emailing Vantage; we received a response that they had received our correspondence but no other results or communications.Read More

VANTAGE – EXPERTS AT BAIT and SWITCH, PONZY SCHEME??

- Various things all over the ship are “OUT of ORDER” (do not work), I,e : electrical sockets in rooms, treadmills, and worse for 2 days of the trip there was a water conversation plan in place that meant minimal toilet flushing, short showers and no ice - all because the ship couldn't take water from the Amazon and process. The cruise became 8 nights on the ship, 2 nights in Manaus, with no meals, 2 two hour tour, 1 lunch, and 2 nights in Belem, with a 2 hour river cruise/lunch, NO dinners off ship: a stripped trip to a totally different area.Read More
