Noble Caledonia Cruise Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Noble Caledonia cruise ships?

Noble Caledonia sells almost exclusively to British passengers of a mature age, who are seeking an adventurous, culturally enriching cruise, but you will find some passengers from Australia and New Zealand, too. Most are couples, but sailings often include a smattering of singles and groups of friends. The country house party atmosphere, with included tours and open-seating dining at mainly big tables, makes this an easy environment for singles.

Do I have to dress up on a Noble Caledonia cruise?

Not really. There's no formal dress code, no gala or formal nights and, as such, no need to pack the tuxedo, but people do tend to make an effort during the evenings. Generally speaking, smart-casual is fine, with people saving their dressier outfits for the welcome and farewell dinners.

Is everything free on Noble Caledonia cruises?

Not quite, but almost. Gratuities and transfers are included, as are all the excursions, including those with meals ashore. All meals onboard are included and wine, beer and select soft drinks are poured with lunch and dinner.

Bar drinks cost extra but are reasonably priced; beauty and spa treatments also come with a fee.

What are Noble Caledonia’s most popular activities?

These are port-intensive cruises, and almost all passengers take every opportunity to go ashore whenever possible. Excursions are high quality and the most popular ones usually involve a meal in a special venue -- a castle or a palace -- and a cultural experience like a music recital.

Onboard, there is little structured entertainment, but talks from guest speakers are always popular. Mostly, Noble Caledonia cruisers like to read in the library or relax on deck.

Why go with Noble Caledonia?

  • Small-ship cruising to off-the-beaten-track destinations
  • Convivial, country house atmosphere
  • Excursions are included, sometimes offering a chance to dine ashore in special venues

Best for: Mature cruisers looking for a jolly atmosphere and culturally immersive exploration

Not for: Families, night owls and anyone who needs to be constantly on the go

Noble Caledonia Andalucian Odyssey on Hebridean Sky, November 2021

This was our second cruise on Noble Caledonia in three months, and it was just as good as the first – so most of this section is adapted from my blog of that cruise.Noble Caledonia now rises to the top of that group because no other cruise line has such consistently interesting itineraries.Read More

Noble Caledonia Hebridean Sky Voyage from Mallorca to Malta 19 Sep – 4 Oct 2021

The first leg was Noble’s first post-Covid ‘international’ cruise [after several months sailing around Britain with UK-only passengers], so the owners gave us an open bar for the entire week [on the second cruise it was only one day, but even that was an unexpected bonus and Brenda deliberately scheduled it on an evening we would be able to make good use of it].All Noble’s international cruises include: flights from London to the ship and back (these flights can be waived for a reduction in fare); wine and beer with meals; all gratuities (and we verified with the passengers that no one tips, even for the local tour guides and drivers); and – most importantly – a full roster of shore excursions.Read More

Don't trust Noble Caledonia

When we finally were flown to the North Island (Auckland) 6 days later, we got a whirlwind 8-day cruise around the North Island, whose coastline is much less interesting than the South Island.Even the North Island cruise was a mess because we went everywhere on the wrong days, when things were either closed or unavailable to us.Read More
