Cruise & Maritime Voyages Cruise Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Cruise & Maritime Voyages cruise ships?

CMV attracts a mixture of people. The low-priced mini-breaks from U.K. ports attract a mixed age group, mainly of people curious to try cruising with little financial risk. Longer cruises by nature appeal to an older crowd. Some ships are only sold to the German or Australian markets and so are different. The ships are not particularly family-friendly, but multigenerational groups are encouraged during school holidays.

Do I have to dress up on a Cruise & Maritime Voyages cruise?

To an extent. There are "formal" nights, but these are interpreted in varying ways. Many people on CMV are first-time cruisers and have no interest in black tie but will make an effort in the evenings. Others are experienced cruisers and still enjoy dressing up. The rules are not strictly enforced, although turning up at dinner in shorts or a track suit is frowned upon.

Is everything free on Cruise & Maritime Voyages cruises?

No. You will pay extra for drinks, specialty dining, tips, spa treatments, shore excursions and laundry.

What are Cruise & Maritime Voyages’s most popular activities?

The most popular activities are all fairly familiar cruise staples, from sunbathing and drinking at the bar to gym classes, spa treatments, table tennis, card games and occasional craft classes. Most people are onboard to have a good time, rather than focus on cultural enrichment.

Why go with Cruise & Maritime Voyages?

  • British line provides a traditional cruise experience
  • Affordable cruising with some impressive two-for-one deals
  • Wide range of U.K. departure ports

Best for: New cruisers wanting to test the water, the time-starved and bargain hunters

Not for: Luxury cruisers, or anyone who wants a balcony cabin

Top notch ship and crew

We were the only English only speaking couple on board, but all crew were multilingual, one of the best we have encountered in cruising; all the other guests were from Europe (with exception of the Russian-American group who conversed in Russian the whole time) but that posed no problems - met some great people.although it primarily seems to handle group tours, it was one of our best cruises we have been on.Read More
